The journey begins...

It is official. I am now married to the Emperor Mika, have been crowned Empress Aymelek and we have begun our journey north to present ourselves to the people there. Mostly to present myself to them. Mika related that since we were married here, in the south, our first months of marriage would be journeying through Dimmamark to ensure the treaty is solid through our union.
I knew someday I would marry and carry out the duties proscribed to me by my birth and position, though I never thought to have such a husband as Mika Nerida. His reputation gained him from those in the North was not gained through tenderness and gullibility. The people of the North, at least as far as I can see are a fierce, hardened people who cannot abide weakness in any form. Their environment demands they face whatever comes their way with determination and purpose. Yet, they welcomed me with open arms. Of course they are cautious, as anyone should be, after all, they only know of me through name and for some, not even that is known. I am a stranger, a foreigner, and everything about me is different. I am small, dark, I speak with a strange accent and I suspect even my scent feels different to them, for it is not of the cool pine or chilled earth, but of desert spice and heated fragrance. They could only nominate a person who is like them to be their representation. Mika Nerida is like the people of Dimmamark, in truth he is half of their blood. He is fierce, hardened, strong and has survived much to gain such a following.
So when I say that Mika is tender with me, that he gives me great concessions and sees to my needs diligently, it is no small matter. He is an attentive husband who ensures that I have food to eat, water to drink, and a warm, dry place to sleep. If possible, he finds ways for me to have a hot bath along the way. It is a very unexpected pleasure.
We entered the first lands within Dimmamark. They were very welcoming with delicious food, merry fires, and lovely mead. Lady Aislynn was especially accommodating. A bard told a musical tale while Mika and I slept in a warm bed by an inviting fire.
We have not yet consummated our union for Mika leaves the timing of that to me. It suited me well for I would have went on for an indeterminate length of time in perfect contentment without pursuing that rather daunting proposition.
That is, until he held me close on a cold night and all the attentive tenderness and respect came flooding back, along with the scent of his clean skin and the feel of his strength beneath my fingertips.
It is wholly unfair.
